Ben Nevis Charity Walk

Back on Sunday we were back on the hill with a keen team from Premium Choice who were taking on their third National Peak, Ben Nevis. Ably led by Neil, James and Iain the team did very well with the majority of the members making the summit. They all realised how much larger this peak is over Scafell Pike and Snowdon, but with this I hope their sense of achievement is also greater too. Well done and thanks all! #LivefortheNow

Isle of Skye Rock Climbing

Yesterday's Skye adventure for myself and LMG Ed was tremendous. Our objective was to climb the Cioch, a huge nubbin of rock which almost impossibly sits on the crag. The rock type on Skye is Gabbro and is without question the finest rock to climb on due to the friction and therefore confidence offered. We journeyed our way up to the Cioch and climbed it via it's nose. Atop there is a sword in the stone and so we got the mandatory pictures! From here we had a short scramble to our testpiece objective of the day, a route called Integrity - written in the guide as the best climb of it's grade on the island. After a stiff start through an overhang you become established on a super grippy sla

Snowdonia Navigation Training

Sunday's weather was far more amenable down in Snowdonia and perfect for Andy's Navigation Course. A day of ambling about above Capel Curig, instructed by Ady they covered all things Nav! #LivefortheNow

Ben Nevis via the CMD Arete

A super day yet again with Alison, Lindsay and Libby. Finally the day had come for their second attempt at the CMD Arete on Ben Nevis after being beaten back by poor weather last year. The day started with a boggy slog up to the summit of Carn Mor Dearg but the 3 hours of anguish were soon forgotten as we started scrambling across the arete. The arete is very similar to Striding Edge, just 5x longer! Half way across the views finally arrived and we couldn't help but snap away with our cameras - Scotland was there in all her glory for us to see. The final slog onto Ben Nevis soon ended and we reached the snow covered top after just 5 hours. On the way down the clouds parted once again and

Munro Bagging

I understand there's been a bit of weather in England and Wales? Well not in Lochaber, oh my what a day! We kicked off the day rather warm and windless ascent of the north ridge of Stob Ban (999m) and we were granted some lovely views as we bagged this Munro. From here we descended and then climbed up to the Devil's Ridge, a narrow crest with some rocky sections which would lead us to our second Munro of the day, Sgurr a Mhaim (1099m). A steep descent finally ended and we finished the walk in good time. With some energy remaining we then took a walk along to admire the Steall Falls which is always a worthy excursion. Ben Nevis via the CMD arete for these three tomorrow! #LivefortheNow

Intro to Mountain Navigation Course

A mega day with returning client Liz on her bespoke Intro to Mountain Navigation course. Liz hadn't really had much contact with maps in the past and so we started from scratch and worked through map symbols, scales and navigational tactics. Before long she'd already gained tonnes of confidence and was turning out to be a natural. We got to the top of Haystacks and then went more 'wild country' as we worked our way back towards the start point. We also managed to cover compass bearings and relocation on the return leg. Well done Liz and thanks for an ace day. #LivefortheNow

Helvellyn and Striding Edge Guided Walk

Back on Sunday LMG James was out with Michael on a private guided tour of Helvellyn. They set off early which given the popularity of Helvellyn over the sunny Easter weekend meant they had a much more secluded experience. Michael was keen to have a play on the edges and so they completed the ascent of Helvellyn via Striding Edge and descended via Swirral Edge. Thanks to James for guiding! #LivefortheNow

Blencathra and Sharp Edge Guided Walk

Ten of the finest pics from our scorchio day scrambling on Blencathra. I was joined on this Open event by 5 folks all keen to get the best out of this mountain, particularly Sharp Edge. The conditions were perfect for such a day and everyone scrambled excellently! Lots of stops to enjoy the views and soak it all in too. Thanks to trainees Tom and Kevin for your help today too. #LivefortheNow

Via Ferrata Extreme - Lake District

A fab morning guiding Steve, Clive, Owen, Hannah and Will around the Via Ferrata Extreme course at Honister today. We were blessed with yet another warm and sunny day so it was an absolute joy to be taking on this adventure today. Well done to all for taking on all the challenges the courses poses in excellent style! Our next VF Extreme group is on Monday 6th May (£45pp) or we can organise bespoke days for your group! #LivefortheNow

Helvellyn & Striding Edge Guided Walk

Guess who's back, back again....Ed is back!!! Tell a friend. Ed was back at the helm for LMG taking 5 lucky walkers over Striding Edge and onto Helvellyn. He said it was pretty busy up there today as loads of people were enjoying this great weather. The group all scrambled well and enjoyed the edges in perfect condition. Thanks to Ed and good to have you back on the hills wearing the LMG logo, and also to trainee Tom for assisting the group today. The 27th July is our next 'Open Event' Striding edge walk (£35pp) or bespoke dates can be arranged upon request. Blencathra and Sharp Edge tomorrow! Woop! #LivefortheNow

Via Ferrata Extreme

A small selection of pictures from this afternoon's Via Ferrata Extreme session. It's LMG Fliss' birthday (I won't tell you how old) and so she gathered some of her friends for a go at this ace adventure. Everyone performed well and pushed personal boundaries that's for sure - it's not an activity everyone can stomach that's for sure! Well done everyone and happy Birthday Fliss! Our next VF session is this coming Monday (9:30am) and it's £45pp. Get in touch if you're keen! #LivefortheNow

Snowdon via the Ranger Path

Snowdon adventures for this bunch of pals this morning. Led by LMG Keith and assisted by Martin they hiked to the busy summit via the Ranger Path. A glorious day to be on Wales' tallest peak. #LivefortheNow

Snowdon Guided Walk

Family reunion times for the Harbord family on Snowdon today. Ady led the group up the Llanberis Path to the busy summit, whilst some of the more sensible members of the family took the train! Another bright and warm day out, those tan lines will be kicking in soon. Thanks, Ady! #LivefortheNow

Guided Fell Running

Today was what was likely to have been the penultimate training day for Ali with us before her Lakeland 3000's attempt in June. It was time to ramp it up a tad and so I got plotting a route which mixed in plenty of running, walking and ascent. Our route started from Keswick and we headed up past Latrigg and under Lonscale Fell and then off eastward to the remote terrain behind Blencathra. We went up and over High Pike and utilised the little Lingy Hut as a place for some lunch. Our route descended to the road north of Carrock Fell and we followed this down to Mosedale. Now back on the up we climbed Bowscale Fell followed by Blencathra. A swift descent off of Blencathra then left us just Lat

Newlands Horseshoe Guided Walk

A clear but cool day on the Newlands Horseshoe with returning clients Ali and Lindsay today. We took on the classic horseshoe in an anti-clockwise direction which meant a steep pull into a windy Robinson to start. Once up we chewed up the miles and took stops in the most sheltered areas in order to have a bit of restbite from the constant wind. Another ace day with these two on a fab route. #LivefortheNow

Snowdon Charity Trek

Well done to the team of 40 fundraisers who climbed Snowdon today all in a bid to raise funds for Orphans In Need. We've been collaborating with OiN for a number of years now and it's ace to be out hosting their first hike of 2019. Huge thanks to Ady, Andy, Fliss and Keith for leading the group today! #LivefortheNow

The Coledale Horseshoe

Cracking times on the Coledale Horseshoe as part of our training weekend. It was pretty windy up top and so in a bid not to get too cold the team moved fairly swiftly and got the route completed in less than 6 hours! Newlands Horseshoe tomorrow. #LivefortheNow

Trainee Mountain Leader Workshop

Today was all about workshops for some of our candidates on the LMG Trainee Leader Development Scheme. Throughout the year they join us for workshops, group supervision opportunities and gain mentoring from our leaders. Today we focussed mainly on the 'Steep Ground' element of the Mountain Leader syllabus. Yet again we were graced with ace weather as we played with ropes and scrambled around. Our Lakes team were playing in Langdale and the Snowdonia squad were up on Tryfan. Happy days! #LivefortheNow

Mountain Skills Course - Day 2

Day 2 of our Mountains skills courses running out of the Lake District and Snowdonia. Matt's team got to grips with some scrambling on the easier sections of Cam Crag Ridge above Langstrath and then navigated their way over the lumps and bumps of Roswthwaite Fell and back to Stonethwaite. Ady spent his day on a busy Tryfan getting Steve and Ali well versed at scrambling and what a fab peak to get to do that on! Thanks to everyone who has joined us this weekend! If you're keen for some formal navigation tuition on either a one day, two day or bespoke course then check out the website or the events diary at

Langdale Guided Walk

A fantastic day out with Bernie and Gill over Lingmoor, squeezing through 'Fat Man's Agony' and descending to the picturesque Blea Tarn, Cathedral Cavern and back to Elterwater. A day of many giggles, much fun and and a photographic day for them both. Huge thanks to LMG Carol for taking the lead on this. #LivefortheNow
