Sunday 6th September 2020 - Blencathra via Halls Fell Ridge
Please note the minimum sponsorship pledge is £250 when you join this event.
Join us on 6th September to scale Blencathra for sunrise all in aid of St Mary's Hospice
Miles: 4.5 Peaks: 1 Duration: 7 Hours
This is the Hard option and involves exposed scrambling at night. A reasonable level of hill fitness is required and previous scrambling experience preferred. Sufferers of vertigo or those afraid of heights are discouraged to pick this route. Please see the moderate option for an alternative.
In our opinion, Halls Fell is one of the best routes direct to any summit in the Lake District. This ridge is a mixture of steep grassy slopes and scrambling (grade 1). The first hour or so is tough as you gain height but then the rocky nature of the ridge kicks in to provide a playground.
This will be a brilliant experience under darkness and as you reach the top of the ridge you’ll also reach the summit of Blencathra. You'll get to spend some time on the summit admiring the sun come over the horizon and lighting up the Lake Disrtrict.
Our descent will be via Blease Fell, a broader grassy end of Blencathra. Steep in places and so walking poles are often useful.
By participating in this event it is expected that you should do some additional fundraising for St Mary's Hospice. Upon booking you will receive a download link, in which there is a pack which will give tips on how to fundraise. You can check out the fab work that the charity does by visiting their website: http://www.stmaryshospice.org.uk/
