**This product is for 1 place on the FULL route of the Buttermere Horseshoe Challenge**
Join a fully guided challenge of the epic Buttermere Horseshoe, all in aid of Hospice at Home West Cumbria!
Enjoy a walk over no less than 8 peaks, totalling 1400m ascent and 12.5 miles walked. This tough route takes the 'high road' around the head of the beautiful Buttermere Valley. Starting from Buttermere village itself the uphill soon starts!
As we leave Buttermere we will enjoy the seclusion of the lakeshore in the early morning but then the up gets going and you’ll enjoy a series of staircases, rising trails, and finally scree to reach the top of Red Pike.
Once up on this lofty summit the next two peaks of High Stile and High Crag come comparatively easily! We walk smaller undulations along this ridge and should the weather be clear we will enjoy some amazing views. The descent from High Crag is steep and loose but careful and cautious walking means you can get down without any issue.
Now at Scarth Gap, the pass that links the Buttermere valley to Ennerdale we have one more ascent onto the final peak of this challenge, Haystacks. Haystacks is a classic but it doesn’t come easily. Expect some easy scrambling and at least one false summit too many, but know that when you reach the summit you’ve got 4 peaks in the bag.
Fleewith Pike comes soon after too. A fairly short descent from Fleetwith Pike will see you arrive at Honister Pass where there will be a support station, and the opportunity to call it a day should you feel the need. From Honister Pass it’s time to get stuck in to another seemingly endless ascent of Dale Head. Once reaching the summit you will be greted by an impressive cairn and even better views.
You’re now established on the Newlands fells and it’s back to smaller undulations to tick off the remaining peaks of Hindscarth and Robinson. The descent from Robinson heads through Buttermere Moss (bog) but by this point the gravitational pull of the pub back in Buttermere will get you to the end.
By participating in this event it is expected that you should do some additional fundraising for Hospice at Home West Cumbria. Upon booking you willr receive a download link, in which there is a pack which will give tips on how to fundraise. You can check out the fab work that the charity does by visiting their website: https://hospiceathomewestcumbria.org.uk/
Please note there is no minimum sponsorship amount but £250+ is encouraged as a target.
