Saturday 15th August 2020 - 2am Meet
On 15th August 1945 Imperial Japan surrendered, which brought World War II to an end and was since known as VJ day (Victory over Japan Day).
To celebrate the 75th Anniversary of VJ Day and the end of WW II, we're providing a special Scafell Pike summit experience. As part of an international act of remembrance, you'll enjoy a guided walk to the highest war memorial in England, the summit of Scafell Pike, from Wasdale (6 miles up and down) through the dark early hours. Once at the top, whilst pipers play 'Battle is Over' we will (hopefully) witness a spectacular sunrise. Pipers around the world will be playing that same tune as the sun rises as a tribute to those who gave so much during WW II.
The walk is £50pp and there are just 15 places available. 10% of the fee is being donated to Combat Stress, a charity which provides mental health support to military veterans.
The event is expected to last in the region of 7 hours. It is suitable for people who have a moderate level of fitness. Experience of walking on the hills at night is not essential.
Please note, in the event of poor weather an alternative route/peak may be used. A special sunrise is also not guaranteed - but fingers crossed!!
