On 30th April 2022 we had our first wet LFOL, however over 600 people turned out in the rain and helped us raise over £3700 for the Lake District Mountain Rescue Search Dogs!

Another great success bringing our Festival of Light Series total to over £67,000

Striding Edge by Torchlight 2020

This event is fast proving to not only be one of the most popular but most exciting events on our calendar. On the 17th October 30 people, split into 3 teams, joined us on a night traverse of Striding Edge. The low hanging clag made for dramatic viewing.

The event donates its profits to the Lake District Search and Mountain Rescue Association and this year we raised £750.

Piping the Pike - Commemorating the 75th Anniversary of VJ Day

An amazing sunrise walk up England's tallest mountain to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of VJ Day. 30 hikers, led by Lakeland Mountain Guides ascended to the summit of Scafell Pike, leaving the base at 02:30am and reaching the top about 2.5 hours later. The morning could not have been more perfect, with an inversion setling in the valleys, little to no wind and a cracking sunrise. At 6:00am the pipers, Robert Procter and Cpl Robert Cunningham of the Royal Marines, played Battle's O'er and would have joined a global movement of pipers playing at the same time.

A stunning morning and an emoional event. The particpants were also glad to raise some funds for the charity Combat Stress in the process.

The 5th annual Striding Edge by Torchlight was attended by almost 40 fundraisers and raised about £1,200 for the Lake District Search and Mountain Rescue Association.

Despite a poor start weather wise it soon cleared to provide the most amazing evening for the event.

It is this event that features in Terry Abraham's 'Life of a Mountain - Helvellyn'.

Our first 'special' event which was focused at using a smaller group of people to try and achieve the same effect. Fleetwith Edge had been in our sights for a few years and it was great to pull off such an ace event. The event was in aid of Cumbria Youth Alliance and was attended by 40 people plus 16 marshalls. £1200 was raised.

An amazing night supported by over 650 amazing people. A massive £13,500 was raised for PHASE Worldwide who will be supporting the people of Nepal.

We lit up the fells of Barrow, Stile End and Outerside and then changed the lights to create the effect of prayer flags adorning the fells. The post event press reached the BBC, ITV and even The Times.

Cumbria Life Culture Awards
Cumbria Life Culture Awards

In December 2016 our Catbells Festival of Light was nominated as a finalist in the Cumbria Life Culture Awards. It was listed in the 'Event of the Year' Category and although it didn't win it did get a special mention by the judges.

We were really pleased to be nominated as a finalist, and we hope our 2017 Lakeland Festival of Light will also make the cut as a finalist in 2018.

On Saturday 5th November 2016 42 people joined us as we aimed to traverse Striding Edge at Night for LDSAMRA. Unfortunately a deep freeze the night before had put snow and ice on Striding Edge and made it just a bit too risky for the event. This said we had a fab time and managed to raise over £2167 for the charity. The event was supported by professional photographers Carmen Norman and Nick Landells. Carmen went on to sell the pictures and donated yet more money to the charity. The event will be running again on Saturday 14th October 2017.
