The Keswick 3 Peaks Challenge with Professional Mountain Leaders

Surrounding the beautiful town of Keswick and the shimmering Derwent Water are three fantastic mid-level peaks which, when linked together, create a superb 18-mile circular route. The Keswick 3 Peaks Challenge takes in Catbells, Walla Crag, and Latrigg — each offering unique and ever-changing views across Derwent Water, Borrowdale Valley, and the Northern Fells. This isn’t just a challenge walk — it’s a truly scenic journey through some of the Lake District’s most iconic landscapes.
The Keswick 3 Peaks Challenge is an ideal entry-level mountain challenge, combining the excitement of a multi-peak day with approachable distances and excellent trails. It’s perfect for mixed-ability groups, charity fundraisers, or anyone looking to test themselves on a rewarding yet achievable day in the mountains.
If you’re looking for a Lake District walking challenge that’s both enjoyable and manageable, the Keswick 3 Peaks Challenge is well worth considering.

Terrain: Mostly Good Trails Duration: Approx. 7-9 Hours
Route Stats: Miles - 18 Ascent - 1000m. Start Location: Keswick

From Keswick, the route begins on easy trails, following the Cumbria Way towards the iconic peak of Catbells. This distinctive double-humped mountain, with its steep paths and small scrambles, doesn’t give up its summit easily — but it’s also the toughest and most rewarding part of the entire challenge. After taking in the stunning views from the top, the route descends into Borrowdale before climbing back out of the valley on quieter trails to reach the second peak, Walla Crag.
With two summits down and one to go, the route drops back into Keswick before looping over the third and final peak, Latrigg. A fast descent into Keswick marks the satisfying end of the challenge.
The route naturally crosses a road after the first two peaks, providing a convenient point for the group to meet a support vehicle. This can be invaluable for carrying extra clothing and supplies or assisting anyone who becomes tired or injured along the way.

Charity Client Testimonial

“Matt from Lakeland Mountain Guides hosted our very first Keswick Three Peaks Challenge. Fundraising events and fundraising as a whole, is very new to us as an organisation, and I felt fully at ease knowing we were in safe hands with Matt and the team. We were in communication throughout the entire booking process, and Matt told me no question was too silly. All of our queries were answered promptly and I felt well informed throughout the entire process.
The day itself was very well organised and Matt and George were very helpful and accommodating to our team and our needs. The atmosphere was wonderful and it was great to hear more about the guides and some of their previous adventures, many of which were much more extreme than our relatively straightforward challenge! We were truly blessed with the weather too as the sun shone all day long.
From the very first conversation with Matt I knew we’d be in safe hands and would use Lakeland Mountain Guides again without hesitation. It was a fantastic day, one I and our fundraisers will never forget. We can’t wait for our next event with Lakeland Mountain Guides!
Thank you.”
