Blencathra in Winter

🔺A WINTRY BLENCATHRA 🔺 Today I was back out with Leonie and we went on a hunt for winter. The weather over the last couple of days had stripped some of the snow, but winter is without question still present on the high fells. This picture sums up the bulk of our day very well! We ascended Halls Fell Ridge, picking the easier lines where possible and avoiding the verglased (iced up) rocks where possible. Leonie has done a few good winter scrambles so she was very much up for the challenge. The near constant spindrift washing down the mountain put the kit to the test and once again proved that carrying goggles in winter is vital and having a jacket with a good good goes a very long way. The wind did lull as forecast and we skated our way across the summit plateau but and descended Blease Fell, from which we eventually got some better views again. Ace to get the winter working season underway, more tomorrow! 🤩 #LivefortheSnow
