Charity and Corporate Mountain Challenges

CHARITY CHALLENGES AND EVENTS

Let Mountain Specialists & Event Organisers host events for your Charity or Team
At Lakeland Mountain Guides we are passionate about providing first class mountain experiences, and since our formation we have had the pleasure of delivering them to thousands of people from all walks of life. We are proud to boast a 5* reputation across all review channels and have an impeccable safety record.

One of our specialties over the years has been the ability to deliver these events to a range of  charities and corporates, helping them to offer a fun, yet safe mountain adventure in order to help raise some funds or bring their teams closer together. Our CV includes leading over 140 people up Scafell Pike (England’s Tallest Mountain) for Sunrise which raised £60,000 for the charity, through to challenge walks such as the Yorkshire 3 Peaks whereby fundraisers are really put to the test in order to earn their sponsorship.

We’ve also  generated a reputation for delivering unique events, many at night, with our Lakeland Festival of Light being the flagship event. Through these events we have not only raised over £65,000 for various charities, but it clearly displays our abilities to create, manage and market an event.

When we work with charities and companies we aim to build a relationship, in the hope that together we can produce quality events to the fundraisers time and time again. Our list of regular charity partners is ever growing, many of which run multiple events with us year on year. This list includes charities such as Orphans in Need, Islamic Help, Hospice at Home West Cumbria and St Mary's Hospice. We have also built collaborations with many corporates who wish to raise funds for charity, and we've had the pleasure of working with companies such as British Airways, Haribo, Colegate-Palmolive, Go Outdoors, IDHL and many more.

On this page you will find some of our options that have been popular with previous charities and organisations we have worked with. Whether you find something in our selection, or have your own mountain based fundraiser idea you'd like to see come to life, we'd love to hear from you.

DAYTIME CHALLENGES

Here is a selection of our most popular daytime challenges. These challenges last between 7-14 hours so they're pretty long days in the hills. For something a bit easier, we can organise something bespoke, or you may consider a day walk up a mountain such as Scafell Pike, HelvellynSnowdon or Ben Nevis
The Keswick 3 Peaks Challenge
DIFFICULTY:

The Keswick 3 Peaks Challenge is an ace challenge to take on if you want to 'test the water' with a mountain challenge event, or if you have a mixed ability group and want to cater for everyone. The challenge takes on an 18 mile circuit over three of the most popular fells surrounding Derwent Water, the lake that Keswick sits next to. You'll accrue a whopping 1000m of ascent as you tackle Catbells, Walla Crag and Latrigg, with the aim of getting around the route in less than 10 hours. A perfect challenge for the Spring / Autumn when the daylight hours are a little bit more restrictive! Click Here for more information

Borrowdale 10 Challenge
DIFFICULTY:
Lakeland 10 Peaks Challenge
DIFFICULTY:

The Borrowdale10 Challenge is the brainchild of Lakeland Mountain Guides. The fells in Upper Borrowdale create an amazing horseshoe of giant fells, so we naturally saw a challenge in it! 5 of the peaks are in the top 10 highest peaks in England - including Scafell Pike, Great Gable and Great End. The aim is to complete the 12 mile route which contains 2000m ascent in under 12 hours.

This challenge is ideally suited to those with good fitness and serves as a great progression from the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge. Click Here for more information.

THE LAKELAND 10 PEAKS CHALLENGE

The Lakeland 10 Peaks Challenge is a step up from challenges such as the Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge, and arguably the National 3 Peaks Challenge. The 17.5 mile route racks up a huge 2500m ascent over 10 peaks - in one day! The peaks included in the challenge are also some of the tallest in England, such as Great Gable, Scafell Pike and Bowfell. The challenge requires a good level of fitness, bucket loads of motivation and oodles of mental strength. The average time taken to complete the challenge is between 12-14 hours so an early start is required. Click Here for more Information

Scafell Pike
DIFFICULTY:
DIFFICULTY:

THE YORKSHIRE 3 PEAKS CHALLENGE

The Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge is a hard but super rewarding day out for any keen walker, no matter their experience. As the name suggests, the challenge is to summit the three highest peaks of Yorkshire in one single circuit. The distance totals 24.5 miles and the challenge is to complete it in under 12 hours.

Many groups find employing the services of a guide beneficial as they can also set the pace of the day, manage the group, be on hand to deal with any emergency situations and of course navigate. Click Here for more information.

Night Mountain Challenges

THE NIGHT SERIES

Night events are one of our specialty, and they work really well as a fundraiser for your charity. Ascending an infamous mountain such as Snowdon for sunrise, or witnessing the sun dip into the sea from Scafell Pike is a magical experience, and almost certainly something most people wouldn't head out and do if it was part of an organised event.
Snowdon Sunrise Charity Events
DIFFICULTY:

Taking on a mountain at night is certainly a challenge, so why not make that mountain the highest mountain in Wales and make it a really good challenge! Our challenge is to climb Snowdon via the Llanberis Path and reach the summit shortly before sunrise. Weather permitting, we will then enjoy a spectacular sunrise. We descend back down the Llanberis path into the town, where a hearty and well earned breakfast can be enjoyed. This challenge event is a great choice for mixed ability groups, and for groups that want a more compact challenge event then some of the others above (approx. 7 hours). Click here for more Information

Scafell Pike Sunset
DIFFICULTY:
Yorkshire 3 Peaks Challenge
DIFFICULTY:

As with the above challenge, night walking is a real buzz. On this challenge you take on the highest mountain in England - Scafell Pike. We use the route from Wasdale to reach the rocky summit of Scafell Pike, from which we will hopefully enjoy an amazing sunrise lighting up the Lake District.

This challenge event is a great choice for mixed ability groups, and for groups that want a more compact challenge event then some of the others above (approx. 7 hours). Click here for more Information

Ramp up this classic walking challenge by undertaking it at night!

The evening starts by reaching the summit of Pen Y Ghent for sunset, and then it's time to chew up the miles under darkness. By the time you reach your third peak dawn will be breaking, and providing your mind or body hasn't broken first you'll enjoy the experience as the night is drawn to a close.

This is a super choice for mixed ability groups that want to do something a little bit different! Click here for more Information

EXTENDED CHALLENGES

Bespoke Night Challenges

THE TOTALLY BESPOKE NIGHT CHALLENGE

As previously mentioned, we're pretty confident in organising night events. The options on what mountains you could ascend or how many after dark are plentiful.

Get in touch with us and we will be more than happy to design a totally bespoke Night challenge for you. This can be anywhere in the UK!

If you have some fundraisers that are fit, have done some hillwalking before and really want to push themselves, then these challenges ought to do it! The easiest of these involves just 16 hours of walking, and it rises up to a full 24 hours. The failure rate isn't a small percentage, but that makes it a very worthwhile challenge to train and prepare for! Challenges like these really draw in the attention of sponsors and would be a good fundraising opportunity.
Lakeland 3000's Sunset Challenge
DIFFICULTY:

An adaptation of the Lakeland 3000's in 24 Hours. We've fine tuned the event and pulled a lot of the mileage but replaced it with more interesting and exciting routes up the peaks. On this challenge you will try and climb Skiddaw via Ullock Pike, Helvellyn via Striding Edge and both Scafell Pike and Scafell all before the sun sets! There is approximately 16 hours of walking involved in this challenge so being fit and experienced in the mountains is essential!

THE LAKELAND 3000's SUNSET CHALLENGE

National 3 Peaks Challenge Guiding
DIFFICULTY:

The National Three Peaks Challenge is the most popular and well known of all walking challenges. The challenge is to reach the summit of all three national peaks within a 24 hour period. The challenge traditionally starts on Ben Nevis in Scotland (1,345m), followed by Scafell Pike in England (978m) and finally Snowdon (1,085m) in Wales. Although undertaken by thousands of people a year, it is a challenge that should not be taken lightly. In total you will walk a distance of 25 miles, climb a mountain in the dark and not get much (if any) sleep in over 24 hours!

Lakeland 24 Peaks Challenges
DIFFICULTY:

THE LAKELAND 24 PEAKS CHALLENGE

In recent years the Lakeland 24 Peaks Challenge has started to become a bit of a classic. It is a 2 day walking challenge, of which the Lakeland 10 Peaks is day one. As you can imagine, with a first day as tough as the one listed above, a second day which includes 14 peaks wouldn't be an easy one. The second day of the 24 Peaks is a slightly easier day, but it still covers 14 miles and racks up an impressive 2300m ascent - bringing the challenge total to over 31 miles and more ascent than the height of Mont Blanc!

Lakeland 3000s in 24 Hours
DIFFICULTY:

THE LAKELAND 3000'S IN 24 HOURS

England hosts 4 mountains which stand over 3000ft, all of which are in the Lake District. Naturally this led to a walking challenge being created, a challenge to walk between the 4 peaks in one go. Starting and finishing in Keswick the route starts up Skiddaw (931m) and then heads down the Borrowdale valley to tick off Scafell (964m) and Scafell Pike (978m). The toughest section of the challenge now ensues as you make your way across to the Helvellyn range. Helvellyn (950m) is the fourth and final peak, after which a final 8 miles brings you to the finish.

Double Scafell Pike
DIFFICULTY:

Why climb a mountain once, when you can climb it twice - back to back?

And why not take it up another level and spend half the challene under darkness?

On 'The Double Pike' Challenge groups will ascend Scafell Pike for Sunset and then descend back to the bottom. After a short break, it's back up the hill for the second time, this time with the aim of getting to the summit by sunrise.

This event can be replicated on many mountains, such as Snowdon, or Helvellyn. Get in touch for more info.

"...I would highly recommend Lakeland Mountain Guides to any company or individuals looking to organise a group challenge. As an events co-ordinator for a charity, it can be a huge task finding a company to use for challenges such as this that are not only reasonably priced, but trustworthy enough to leave your supporters in their care. We received nothing but great feedback from everyone who took part in the event, all the supporters raised a fantastic amount of money for the charity and had a fabulous time doing it!"

“ Working with Matt for the last three years has been a pleasure. From the point of initial contact Matt shared our vision with our direction for our charity events, each year these trips have grown beyond belief. Matt and all the fantastic guides ensure our walkers feel relaxed, safe but with just the right amount of support and motivation if required. Matt’s knowledge and enthusiasm for what he does is infectious. We could not recommend LMG enough…… if there was a six star button we would press it!

Your Event will make a Difference

£2 from every Lakeland Mountain Guide participant of a charity or corporate event, will go to the John Muir Trust Wild Ways Path Appeal.

The John Muir Trust is a UK conservation charity dedicated to creating a world where wild places are respected and protected, where nature flourishes and where the value of wildness is shared for the benefit of everyone.

They are the guardians of some of the finest wild landscapes in the UK, and promote natural solutions to the climate and ecological crises and inspire thousands of people to take part in active conservation.
The Wild Ways Path Appeal Our pathwork is funded entirely from donations, so please give back to the places you love. Paths offer us routes to adventure and ways to unwind, but it’s easy to take them for granted. In-creased footfall and rainfall can turn these paths into deep scars. Without the funds to man-age our impact, these beautiful places don't have the chance to recover.

The John Muir Trust repair and maintain 120km of paths every year, from the coastal trails of Skye and Sandwood to world famous mountain routes on Ben Nevis, Schiehallion and Helvellyn. Our pre-emptive approach to maintenance keeps trails wild and costs low. We need to continue this work, in all weathers, year in and year out, which is a never ending task.

The donations raised through Lakeland Mountain Guides events will help care for and maintain paths through wild places, protecting fragile plants, animals and soils from erosion and disturbance. For more information please click here
