Earlier this week LMG Gibson was out with Sarah and John helping them push their boundaries and learn new skills!
The pair live locally and Sarah is a probationary member of the mighty Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team. In a bid to unskill herself she was keen for some time with one of our mountaineering instructors getting to grips with steeper Scrambling.
They all had a brilliant day on Great Gable, ascending the iconic Needle Ridge to the summit.
Well done all! #liveforthen
'I'm here because of Nimsdai!' Was the first thing Kristina said when she got out of the car. 'If he can climb 14 Peaks, I can do 1!' And this was the tone of the day as we laughed our way up and down Scafell Pike in what was at times character building weather. It was a real joy to spend the day with Kristina, Sammy and Jill, and to get them up and down Scafell Pike too of course! Happy days #liveforthenow
Just back from a brill second day with our mountain skills bunch. The weather forecast was indicating high winds and drizzle all day, so our plan was to stick to the mid-level peaks and not venture too high. Bessyboot is an ideal place to really test the nav skills. It's all off path and there are plenty of contours to get the head around. The group navigated well all day, finding the small tarns and features I asked them to locate. Pacing, bearings and contour interpretation
It wasn't much of a day for views, but the company more than made up for it. A slightly soggy, but lovely time with Vencia up Scafell Pike today. We approached from Seathwaite via the Corridor Route and she loved this. What's more is this now finalises her journey to the top of the three national peaks. Thanks to gusty wind and icy boulders we opted to return back the same way, as oposed to over the tops via Esk Hause as usual. At least I had my flask to navigate by... 😝 #Li
And just when we thought it couldn't get any better... The sunshine comes out to play! 🌞 I was out with three fresh faces today running another intro to winter skills course on Helvellyn. Much the same day as what we ran yesterday with regards to what we covered, but this time with sunshine, views and some slightly crunchier snow. You only have to see how many of these pics have big smiles featured in them to get an idea for how good a day these folks had. Big thanks everyon
Wow! 🥳 Finally, some luck, and what a big heap of luck we got! I was out today with a fantabulous 6 folks on our Open Event One Day winter skills course, and we knew we'd get into the snow, but we never expected sun! From Glenridding we first headed up BIrkhouse Moor, chatting about some winter knowledge as we went. From here we popped the crampons on and ambled over to Red Tarn, where suddenly, and totally against the forecast, the sun appeared! Now in a wintry dreamworld w
A weekend of two distinct halves for Nick and his son Finlay. They joined us for a bespoke winter skills weekend and certainly enjoyed their day out on Helvellyn with LMG Gibson yesterday. They covered loads of skills, and enjoyed the amazing weather conditions. Today, they braved the wind and rain for some navigation training on High Rigg. A character building day led by LMG Geoff, but one they also loved for different reasons. A fun, action packed, knowledge stuffed weekend
It was a wet 'n wild adventure for Manni, Hayley, Tim and Lee today around and on the lower slopes of Loughrigg. The Warwickshire based group wanted a nice walk out to experience the sights of the Lake District and it's fair to say they got the full rinse and repeat experience. This didn't dampen spirits and they loved their day out visiting some gusty spot heights as well as the Rydal Caves. Big thanks to LMG Carol for guiding them today. #LivefortheNow #outdoorprofessionals
Awesome to be out with returning client Kris today. Again, he'd been booked in for some winter action, but was keen to go for a scramble anyway. We enjoyed a sporting traverse of Striding Edge and after a bite to eat on the summit of Helvellyn we dropped onto Catstycam. The neve (hard snow) is still present at the top so we deployed our ice axes that were still worth taking for such obstacle, and we had a little play around with some movement and axe techniques. It was a just
Big thanks to Matt, Harry, Jake and Adam for joining us this weekend for a bespoke winter skills course. These guys have got ambitions of climbing Mont Blanc in the summer, so they not only wanted to sharpen up their winter walking skills, but learn some skills specific to the alpine environment. On Saturday they were out with LMG Gibson on and around Helvellyn, covering all sorts from Ice axe arrest through to learning how to make a buried axe anchor. On Sunday LMGs Gibson a
Another day, and another superb winter day up on Helvellyn. Thankfully overnight temps dropped to provide some firmer snow for today, which gave the group an opportunity to get plenty of time in crampons and time using the ice axe. Our journey today saw us ascend Swirral Edge to the summit of Helvellyn. From this windy summit we descended Swirral Edge and then took in Catstycam before heading back into the valley. Thanks everyone, an awesome day! #LivefortheNow #outdoorprofes
A super day out with six keen beans introducing them to the delights of winter walking. The day started off a bit damp, but thankfully as we reached Red Tarn this stopped. We managed to cover walking in crampons, walking with an axe, avalanche awareness and lots of chat about planning such a day. Ground conditions report: The snow has pretty much disappeared from many of the north Western fells (seen when driving home) and Western facing slopes are pretty stripped. The snow t
Scafell Pike the quiet way today, and what a joy it was. A pleasure to guide this group of 5 pals up Scafell Pike via the Piers Gill path as they'd requested a way that most people probably wouldn't go. The skies were blue and the views were ace. I was keen to show them the view from Lingmell Nose, and we certainly got there at the perfect time too. #LivefortheNow #outdoorprofessionals #adventures #ScafellPike
A mega day with LMG regular Jo helping her bump her Wainwright tally up to 106 (of 214). We enjoyed a day ticking off BIrkhouse Moor, Catstycam, Helvellyn, Nethermost Pike and Dollywagon Pike. The autumnal colours and light out there at the moment is epic!! 👌 #LivefortheNow #outdoorprofessionals #adventure #guiding
After a good soaking on Tuesday, Pat was out again on Friday with such a contrast in weather….and what a fantastic day it was. Helvellyn via Swirral Edge with views everywhere. Pat’s 2nd ever day in the mountains and he soaked up the miles and the views. #LivefortheNow #outdoorprofessionals #adventures #guiding #helvellyn
Mr T's Final 8 Challenge A year ago Andy Turner passed away, taken by cancer, leaving a super family, some some great friends and 41 unclimbed Wainwrights behind. His wife Susan got in touch with me wanting to do a challenge to tick off the final peaks left on the list after she'd spent months working her way towards the 214 since his passing. We designed a route and yesterday, along with Susan's family and friends we had the most amazing day in the hills, walking in tribute
Last night we pulled off yet another LMG special - the 6th Striding Edge by Torchlight. This event is a real highlight in the calendar and last night was no exception. Despite some rain as we crossed the edge and plenty of mist to limit the visibility, it was great fun all the same. Our group of experienced scramblers crossed with care, enjoying the experience that many of them would never consider doing without such an event. 50% of profits from the event are donated to the
Well today was an absolute sufferfest... Look at those rubbish views... 😜 A brilliant day with the HPB group again today as we completed another fine linear walk. Our journey today was southwards down the Cumbria Way, from near Bassenthwaite back to Keswick. We enjoyed every minute as the Lake District was really showing itself off today. Lunch on the summit of Latrigg was a real delight too. #LivefortheNow #outdoorprofessionals #adventures #sorrynotsorry
Double Helvlyn via Striding Edge today as we had two different bespoke groups out. LMG Gibson has a super day with Lucy, Dan, Rebecca and Tom, whilst I had an equally super day with Mike and Becks. We didn't see much all day, but that didn't withdraw from the ever awesome scrambling experience Striding Edge offers. Well done all! #LivefortheNow #outdoorprofessionals #adventures #helvellyn #Lakedistrict
Out today we had Ben on a bespoke Navigation training course, Led by LMG Carol. 'Ben smashed it today! A days navigation and a really quick learner. From basic hand railing navigation techniques to bearings and boxing round obstacles. A really pleasant day on the fells…' #LivefortheNow #outdoorprofessionals #adventures #skills #map #AdventureSmart
